Abstract
Through this article, we would like to deepen our knowledge about the Roman Empire in the first century of the Christian era, looking at it as a background, in order to have a better understanding about the cities of Palestine and Galilee. This is the world context, in which Jesus was born, grew up, and received political and religious formation. From the sociological, religious and political stand point, the Palestinian region, particularly Galilee, is considered to be at the margin/periphery. The region was heavily burdened with taxes, land concentration in the hands of the elite groups, and other types of exploitations.
